IELTS Writing Task 2 Essay Template
Introduction: [Paraphrase the prompt]. It is often argued that [view A], though others contend that [view B]. This essay will [agree / disagree / discuss both views].
Body 1: To begin with, [main argument 1]. For example, [supporting evidence]. This illustrates that [conclusion from point].
Body 2: Additionally, [main argument 2]. A notable case in point is [example]. It can therefore be seen that [conclusion].
Conclusion: In summary, [restate the main arguments]. Consequently, [final conclusion based on evidence].
IELTS Writing Task 1 — Bar Chart / Line Graph Template
Introduction: "The [chart/graph] illustrates [what is shown] from [time period]."
Overview: "Overall, it is evident that [main trend], while [secondary observation]."
Body 1: Describe the highest/most notable category with specific figures.
Body 2: Compare with other categories, noting trends and changes.
How to Use Templates Effectively
- Memorise the structure, not the exact words — adapt the language to each specific task
- Practise each template at least 10 times with different topics to make it automatic
- Never use the same example in every essay — vary your evidence
- Adjust vocabulary level to match the academic register required by the exam
Important: You cannot bring written templates into the exam room. The goal is to internalise the structure so it comes automatically under time pressure.
